ANIMISM
The Living City

ANIMISM is a speculative project that envisions the city as a living, breathing entity, challenging the static nature of urban development in contemporary Israel, particularly in the Ir Yamim neighborhood of Netanya. The project, set against the backdrop of the 21st century's shift from a desire for stability to a craving for constant change and stimulation, proposes a city that dynamically responds to the needs and activities of its inhabitants. Through a series of animations, "Animism" illustrates a city that morphs and adapts, ensuring that its spaces are always active and never wasted.
The project showcases four scenarios to depict this living city concept. In 'Play,' the city morphs into giant play zones for children returning from school. 'Work' sees the city bustling with co-working spaces and vibrant streets to enhance the workday experience. For 'Gather,' the city smartly configures itself to accommodate gatherings like concerts or demonstrations, creating stages and passages as needed. And in 'Party,' it transforms into a lively network of streets and alleys, offering a variety of nightlife spots to suit diverse preferences. These scenarios reflect the city's potential to become a dynamic, adaptable environment that caters to its residents' ever-changing needs.
ANIMISM presents a new perspective on urban spaces, reading them through the lens of human interaction and need. It stands in stark contrast to the increasingly rigid and lifeless urban landscapes, such as the Ir Yamim district, offering a vision of a city that lives, adapts, and reacts empathetically to its inhabitants. This project is more than a design concept; it's a call to rethink urban living, proposing a future where cities are not just places to live but entities that actively participate in their residents' lives. ANIMISM symbolizes the emergence of the living city, a habitat that evolves with its people.
